Steve Bockhaus is a member of the National Association of Realtors, Kansas Association of Realtors, Newton Board of Realtors, Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, Halstead Chamber of Commerce, and the area multi-listing service.
 
 The Bockhaus family have been long time residents of the Harvey County area. They settled near Halstead around 1902. Steve's great-grandfather, grandfather, and father farmed the area for over 80 years. Steve's father, Arther Bockhaus, also worked as a carpenter building many houses in the Halstead area. He also owned and operated Bockhaus Concrete, which was located in Halstead for over 20 years. Art served as a volunteer city and rual firefighter, and later became rual Fire Chief for the Halstead-Lakin townships.
 
 Steve's great uncle, Albert Bochaus (this is how he spelled the last name), was an early entrepreneuer who owned and operated Bochaus Manufacturing in Newton. He was well known for his ornamental iron work. He also built fire trucks and amusement park rides. He even built jail cells for the old Harvey County Court House.
 
 Steve and his wife Terri, have lived in the Newton and Halstead areas for most of their lives. Steve was involved in the early development of the Halstead EMS, and served as the Halstead Ambulance Director for 10 years, while also serving the Halstead Fire Department for 18 years. Steve was also involved in the construction field for over 20 years.
 
 In 1999, Steve and Terri purchased a 1890's era home in Newton. They have enjoyed reconstructing this home to reflect early Victorian charm. This home was seen in an article in "This Old House" magazine, April 2003.
 
 Steve and Terri are active members in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton. They work on the Engaged Encounter Team and the RCIA Team. Steve is a Fourth Degree member in the Knights of Columbus and is an officer in Council 976.
